Real del Monte and Huasca, Mexico's first Pueblo Mágico!

Warning, you're entering a danger zone!

Just kidding. teehee

A month ago, my Puebla pal Anna and I took a long weekend trip to Real del Monte and Huasca, both pueblos mágicos in Hidalgo, a neighboring state. Real del Monte was formerly a coal-mining town where settlers from Cornwall, England came to work. Because of this, there is a significant British influence on the town's design and cuisine. Huasca is close by and is the first pueblo mágico in all of Mexico. Here are photos in no particular order, explained:

Mirror selfie, because why not?

A road we liked a lot!

A cool church!

Okay, so like I said, there is a large British influence on Real del Monte, and one of the most prominent is the paste, or pasty. It's a flaky dough crust filled with meat, vegetables, or sweet stuff. Real del Monte is famous for its pastes and BOY, were we in love. Our favorite was the paste filled with crema de pollo, or cream of chicken. Biting into that pasty released a burst of essentially chicken stew in our mouths and we were smitten. Anyway, this is the most famous paste place in Hidalgo, Pastes "El Portal." There were autographs and signatures covering the walls from people all over the world who had come to try these pastes.

I don't know, I just liked this.

Elotes aren't special in Hidalgo, but they're never a bad idea in Mexico.

We found a brewery we really liked in Real del Monte and went two nights in a row! Oh, as you can see, it was COLD.

*artsy*

So this bridge is shaky, and crossing over it, I truly thought I might slip off and die. It was terrifying. My heartrate surged and my fitbit counted it as a workout, so that's a plus.

Our little hotel room! It was super sweet and cozy, but FREEZING at night. Putting on our jeans in the morning was the most painful experience I had that month, I think.

Beer part 2!

This was at Pastes "El Portal" on our last morning. Grace with café de olla and the signature paste (carne con papas or meat and potatoes) = happy Grace.

This is from when we arrived. It was a beautiful day!

The English cemetery. It was crazy to see a bunch of English names written all over the graves. I couldn't enter but I stuck my phone through the gates to take a quick video.

Views!

Model moment!

It was a really lovely trip to a very charming part of Mexico with one of my bestest friends. I hope for more weekend getaways!

Hasta pronto, mi querido México

It's my last week in Puebla, Mexico, and I don't do well with endings/goodbyes, so this might feel a little emotionless. I'll start...
